High Fat Diet Or Low Fat Diet
High fat diets have been shown to negatively impact your hormonal balance and in particular your thyroid gland.
Research has shown us that going low carb can affect the thyroid gland by:
• A drop in metabolic rate and energy production (1)
• Causing a fall in the active thyroid T3 thyroid hormone (2)
• Raising the thyroid blocking Reverse T3 hormone levels (2)
All of these suppress your thyroid function and so negatively affect your overall health, and of course the health of your thyroid gland.
Further to this, studies have shown that plant diets are associated with reduced risk of thyroid issues.
Diets that contained animal products or omnivore diets were associated with an increased risk of hypothyroidism.
Following a high fat diet can also negatively impact your liver health and potentially causes NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) (3).
Your gut bacteria and microbiome which are central to your health can also be negatively impacted by eating a high fat diet, as it can reduce the diversity of your gut bacteria. (4)
Studies have also shown that eating a high fat diet can raise the risk of AMD (age-related macular degeneration) as it disrupts that the healthy functioning of the cells in your eye’s macular. (5,6)
Further to all this there is even more science showing why a keto (high fat diet) can be very damaging to your health and even in some cases fatal and you can see a post that we done about it here.
